ASA has made some great progress since its inception in 2002, but unfortunately, much of it is not concrete. This progress can quickly roll back. We must continue to strengthen our fight. Our opposition has become well-organized. They’re saying all the right things and gaining momentum at a time when we need to be extending our lead. ASA recognizes the need to continuously adjust our game plan to best fight the opposition. We have developed a whole new approach for 2011 and are using the tools necessary to keep moving forward across the nation.
Here is an overview of our projects this year:
The Medical Cannabis Advocate's Training Center
ASA believes that good policy is created when those who are most affected are at the table. ASA has always been committed to demystifying political systems and providing advocates the tools they need to participate in the processes in a meaningful way.
The Medical Cannabis Think Tank and Policy Shop Although ASA has been informally fulfilling this role for the medical cannabis movement for over nine years, the changing political landscape and a high demand from the grassroots for more in depth support, ASA has created this new program.
Sick and Tired Campaign
Your participation in this campaign will send a clear message to President Obama from the medical cannabis community: We are sick and tired. We are suffering from chronic or debilitating conditions, and we are weary of false promises that do nothing to protect our rights as patients.
Federal Advocacy Project
ASA's National Office, located in Washington, DC, advocates for safe access to cannabis for therapeutic use and research to better meet the immediate needs of patients, medical professionals, and researchers. We help to broaden support for medical cannabis on Capitol Hill, and within executive agencies and national institutes.
California Campaign for Safe Access
The mission of the California Campaign for Safe Access is to monitor, implement, and improve medical cannabis law in California through protection and expansion of patients’ rights, using education, litigation, legislation, grassroots advocacy and direct support.
Raid Center
Medical cannabis providers need to prepare themselves, both mentally and operationally, for a raid. Until federal law is harmonized with state law and state laws are fully implemented, raids are always a possibility.
Take A Closer Look: Cannabis is Medicine
While the issue of medical marijuana carries 80% support nation-wide, many are still uninformed about the extent of the medical efficacy of cannabis. ASA is helping the nation to "Take A Closer Look" at the efficacy of medical cannabis though comprehensive outreach and education, proactive media strategies, and creative litigation.
Patients' Rights Project
This project provides direct support and guidance to those using and providing medical cannabis and uses advocacy, media outreach and the courts to expand their rights.
Community Support Project
This project provides an array of support and resources for patients, theiar providers, advocates and clinicians.
State Campaigns
ASA's state campaigns monitor, implement, and improve medical cannabis laws on the state and local level.
